SURFACE CURRENT MEASUREMENTS FROM MOVING VESSELS BY WAVEX
Measuring ocean surface currents from moving vessels has many useful applications including fuel optimisation, hull performance estimation and navigational support in constrained areas or during critical operations. Traditional methods of measuring surface currents make use of instruments immersed in water. Such methods are associated with challenges related to disturbances caused by vessel motion, in addition to high installation and maintenance costs.
With the latest version of the Miros Wavex, novel algorithms provide a breakthrough within the field of surface current measurements based on marine X-band radar images. The Miros Wavex provides surface current measurements with high accuracy in local areas of interest without any need for underwater equipment.
